I don't have any advice but would love to hear some others thoughts on this as well.

It just happened to me with an old macy's account. It wasn't reporting at all on my credit reports but I was recieving letters from a CA so I paid the debt in full. Now Macy's put the account on my CR with a charge off/paid status . I probably shouldn't even had paid it since I think it was past SOL.

How soon after the initial letter did you pay? And who did you pay, OC or CA?

As far as I can tell there are only 3 options in dealing with a paid CA as listed on your reports: 1) send them a GW letter, 2) DV the paid CA (often they don't want to take time to validate and will delete), 3) wait for the 7 yrs to expire.

IMO, send the DV first, then follow-up with GWs after 40 days or so.

Re: Added Credit Account on Report after Collections was paid.

I am totally confused about this as well. I've had two instances where this seems to have happened. I had a medical collection, paid the collection, and then they sent it to the collection agencies. Seems bizarre. And then, when I paid off my vehicle, the finance company went back and then CHANGED the reporting on two months from over a year ago to 30 days late. I have the credit reports from before the payoff when those months show good payments and then a new credit report after the payoff that then show those months as 30 days late. What are their responsibilities in reporting??
