Adding Accounts to CR

Is it beneficial to add a closed "paid satisfactory"  account to CR?  I only have one positive on 2 CRs and three positives on the third CR.  I was thinking of adding my positives to get scores higher.

If it is closed, it won't help any.

Focus on getting open accounts added.

Not necessarily. Depends upon the age of the account. Could help if it's older than the average age. The problem is how are you going to get it on.

Re: Adding Accounts to CR

I also would like to add an account to my credit report -- it's from the early 90s, and would tremendously help my account age. It reports to one credit reporting agency, but I would also like it to report to the other credit reporting agencies. Do people in our situation contact the old creditor directly to make that request? Is there a form letter one should use to make that request?

Your best and safest best is to call them. Which creditor is it?

Try calling them. I take it the account has been closed for a number of years? Wouldn't hurt to call. But it is a very long shot and I really haven't seen anyone try to add an old account like that. Also, good accounts only stay on your CR for 10 yrs from the date you paid it off or closed it.

Re: Adding Accounts to CR

I presume that it is no longer shown on yo0ur CR becuase it has been closed for 10 years, at which point the CRAs stop including it, and thus FICO stops scoring it.  The OC stopped reporting after it was closed becsuse they dont report monthly data on closed accounts in good standing.
The only way I know of to get it back into your CR is to get the account re-opened by the OC, with their agreement to transfer your entire prior account history to the new account.  Most will not do this.  No benefit to them.  They usually just ask  you to open a new account, with new number and new history.  I see little chance of success.
