Adding account to report.

Can someone point me in the right direction to handle this. I have some student loan debt with Direct Loans that I have been paying on for 8 years with no baddies.  Last year I consolidated my student loans to lock in a low interest rate.  After I did that the original account was closed and a new account was opened.  My old account had been being reported to all 3 credit bureau's, but after the consolidation and new account was created it is only being shown on my Experian and Equifax reports.  I called Direct Loans and they said that they still report to all the bureaus, and TransUnion said that they report all info given to them.  Neither wants to help, and my TU Fico is hurting because I only have one revolving account and one installment account open on it.  I need some help on how to get this account added back on my Transunion report.  TIA.

Re: Adding account to report.

Welcome to the forums!

The lack of an additional TL isn't what is hurting your score, but rather the removed history. I bet your AAoA took a beating and that caused the decrease. TU is correct, IMO, by saying that they only are reporting what they are seeing. I'd keep hammering away at Direct Loans. It'll be a long shot. Not speaking to Direct Loans specifically, there are others who are going or went through the same thing.

Re: Adding account to report.

If you paid off the old loan through a new loan, the old account is closed.

The original creditor has no obligation to report anything further on the old account other than that the account was closed.

The creditor is under no obligation to report the new account to all three CRAs,

I dont see any way you can legally force their reporting.

Re: Adding account to report.

llecs,

No information was ever removed from the report, just that the account was paid and closed.  Therefore the AAofA has not changed.  My score dropped because of the lack of open accounts on the report since the account went from open to closed and the new account is not being reported on the TU CR.

Robert,

Correct the old account was paid and closed when the new account was created.  No issues with that.

I understand that they are not required to report to all of the CRA's, and if they said they were no longer reporting to TU then definately nothing I can do.  However they swear up and down that the information is being reported to TU, and it is something with TU for the info not showing on the report.  I know this is probably a losing battle but thought I would take a crack at it.

Any other help is much appreciated.

Have you asked to speak directly to the department that does the credit reporting? Something changed when they changed their reporting to show that it was paid.

I don't think regular CSRs can help you with this. You need to get directly to the person/people who handle credit bureau reporting. If someone can't help you, ask them who else you could speak with. Be persistent and patient. (And be nice.) It also may not hurt to send them a snail mail with the details. It may just happen to fall on the right person's desk.

While there is no legal reporting requirement, I understand your frustration in losing the history.
