Alerts Are A Good Thing-Unauthorized Charge Revealed

Got an alert yesterday from creditone that a charge over my threshold alert occured (I have it set real low at 21 dollars). It was for 101 dollars for some online shopping site.

I immediately called them and said I had not made that charge so they issued a new card (expected in 7-10 days).

Logged in today and last 4 numbers of new card was showing.

I asked the rep would this affect my credit report in anyway and they assured me everything would be the same except my credit card has a new number.

First time this has happened and definitely something I don't need in my credit rebuild (someone trying to mess with my credit).

So glad during this journey I have learned to applied different alerts and lock my credit reports (tips from this forum) as proactive measures to protect my credit.

Alerts are awesome aren't they?

Twice I've been alerted of fraudulent purchases (around 2-4am) over the last year and a half. I caught them before the items were shipped b/c of alerts. Glad you got it taken care of.

There may initially be 2 accounts on report before they merge, but don't freak or dispute. It will resolve, keeping original open date and all info.

Most cards allow card alerts to be as low as 0 or $1 for threshold, except Amex, which is $10.

Glad you caught it!!

I alway's set for lowest threshold, whatever that may be ..YMMV

Also set for out of the US transaction's, and especially "card not present" transactions ... (whenever possible)
