Just wondering if you have an update to your situation.

Re: American Express - what are my rights and where can I find them?

I hope this situation works out. I can certainly understand the OP's dilemma. Once you are convicted of a felony in modern America, you're basically done as far as having any opportunity for a career or normal life. Your only option to have any kind of normal existence is emigration to another country. Any felony conviction in America these days is basically a life sentence, thanks to the Gattaca-esque government databases.

We can all agree that the person who committed the fraud deserves punishment, but not being condemned to poverty and ostracism for the rest of their life...

UPDATE: Re: American Express - what are my rights and where can I find them?

Hi all,

Many (and I mean many) have inquired asking for an update on this situation.....I just received notice yesterday from Equifax where this is showing that the debt has once again been verified.

Instinctively, I knew this would happen, so I mailed a letter to the President of AMEX last Monday.
Keep your fingers crossed for us and prayers are also welcomed!

tick.tock.tick.tock.....waiting to see what happens.
Be blessed,
Missy

Re: Update: American Express - what are my rights and where can I find them?

For those the MANY of you who have emailed me wanting an update on this situation, I wish I had an update to give you. Nothing much has happened. I did get a notice from Equifax that once again AMEX had verified the debt. I then composed a letter, a lengthy one I might add, to the CEO of AMEX and I am waiting for his response. It's been about 10 days now and so I/we run to the mailbox everyday hoping that we finally get something but so far nothing. I am to the point now where I am beginning to think that nothing short of an ad in say the NY Times explaining this whole mess will help us. So, my update is tick, tock, tick, tockSmiley Happy) Missy

Re: Update: American Express - what are my rights and where can I find them?

My letter was mailed directly to the CEO of AMEX. Not sure I can go higher than that. I figure since I wrote the BIG GUY himself, I will allow more time for it to get to him, him to send it to a peon, the peon to send it to a lower peon, and in reverse, for it to work its way back up to the CEO for a final response. Probably a month for sure...I will let you guys know as soon as I know! I promiseSmiley Happy)) Be blessed, Missy

Wow... I just skimmed thru this thread.  Missy_Bell, I just wanted to let you know I'm hoping that the CEO will see what I see in this and have the derogs corrected.  You shouldn't be punished for doing the right thing by them and for what you felt you wanted to do for your family.  I can't imagine AMEX not having a heart in this... you did pay every penny and that says volumes.

Good luck in all aspects of this!

One more thing, there is nothing that anyone can say to us that we have not already said to ourselves a MILLION times. What we are looking for now, is a possible resolution to this problem and how to have it removed from our report, if that is possible.

Missy - I guess my question is how on earth did your AMEX get charged off if you PIFd in 6 months??? I could imagine that a bunch of lates would be reported if you decided not to pay while you tried to work things out at home... But not a charge off.

If we don't know the actual circumstances, there's not much we can do to help.

Sorry for poking. Just can't help without the real story.
