Annual Credit Report issues

Whenever I try to pull my free TU or EQ reports from Annual Credit Report, the questions they ask to verify my identity do not apply to me. They ask about store cards and car loans and which bank my car loan is through and how much my payment is. I don't have any of those things. So, at first, I was alarmed, thinking maybe someone else had gotten credit in my name. But when I pay the company, or pull credit reports for TU and EQ through EX or FICO, none of those things show up on my credit reports. Where the heck are they getting those questions from, then?
Edit to add: Because I answer "none of these" to all of the questions, I am unable to view my free reports. It tells me that are unable to verify my identity.

Re: Annual Credit Report issues

Sometimes they pull info from third party bureaus such as LexisNexis, EWS, SageStream, etc. I would check with those bureaus, as they may have inaccurate information for you, and/or they may have confused your file with someone else's.

Re: Annual Credit Report issues

I know it's the wrong way to do it, but if you have a Credit Karma (or other) account with reports, you can check what info they have on there and either use that to answer the question or have the CRA correct the wrong information.

RESPONSE

EQ exited reality IMNOSHO. They changed my last name. I called and the rep told me to just use the last name EQ gave me. Kooks!

The security questions seem to be off base for me as well. I really don't care. They got me on the car purchase/dealer/lein holder questions, too. The questions were in the previous year identify the dealer on the car purchase. I didn't buy a car at that time. I've never purchased from the three dealers offered so I went with D. none of the above. Next question was to dentify the lein holder on the imaginary car. I've never done business with the three institutions offered so it was D. again.

I had to make two personal visits to USPS to be verified for Informed Delivery. Getting verified for that silly HealthSafeID was a trip! I was locked out of my account and no place to appear with a DL for verfcation. I finally phoned United Health and asked them to stop debiting my checking account as I don't seem to exit. UH fixed it immediately.

Last year I tried to activate an updated VISA card. Usually the phone number is recognized and a robot advises the card is activated. This time the call was sent immediately to a person. He told me I do not exist in their system. That begged the question why did they send the card? I was good and didn't ask. He was only doing his job. The servicing bank is my primary bank. I went there for activation. The banker had to jump through so many hoops to assure VISA she was real and who she stated she was. That TL was 30 year old. Had it not been an older card I would have let it close due to inactivity.

In another subforum on the site I was recently taken to task for not financing my last car purchase and using the dealer's captive. I see all kinds of fun that would generate.  Lol  At any rate that poster seemed to deem me ignorant, unwashed and whatever else. A statement was made that dealer financing was a known way to build wealth!!!! Probably for the dealer but just an unnecessary hassle for me. I'm a cash buyer. My goal is not to complicate my life.

I'm debt free, retired and funded. That works for me. Smiley Happy
