Hi I'm a legal alien* with a problem - I struggle to get a visual on my scores with the agencies, due to not having a SSN. All the free credit monitoring options (such as Credit Wise) offered by American Express, Capital One etc. don't work for me because they specifically require SSN/won't accept ITIN.
*I am an Englishman, but I'm not in New York, so don't let that annoying Sting song play in your head. ![]()
I used to see my Equifax score each month on a HSBC credit card statement, but they changed the format earlier this year and that's no longer available.
I accidentally discovered a way to see my Experian score - ask Capital One if I can be pre-approved (soft check only) for the Venture X - a card I really would like to have - and be emailed their explanation on why they can't pre-approve me. The letter includes the Experian score on the application date.
Does anybody know of any clever indirect methods please, similar to that above, which would let me see Equifax or Transunion?
Thanks for looking.

Hello @MisterFico,
This is such a clever workaround—and relatable, too. It’s incredibly PaybyPlateMa frustrating that so many tools still exclude folks using ITINs. Your method with Experian is resourceful, and tapping into rejection letters or pre-approval responses is a smart angle. For Equifax or TransUnion, maybe try applying for a secured card or store card that doesn’t require an SSN—some fintechs offer alternative verification and might trigger a soft pull with score disclosure. Also, consider asking banks that previously provided the score if they have other channels for access. You’re thinking creatively, and that’s exactly the approach this system calls for.
Best regards,
