Anyone know reporting SOL for Medical Collections?

Does anyone know what the SOL for reporting Medical Collections?  Are they the same as other debt?

I notice that a poster mentions that New York has a five year reporting limit and you can dispute as past SOL per the FCRA.

Any input from anyone would be great.

I live in FL, my son in MS.

I have one Med Collection that is to be removed 10/2008 and the CA will not budge with PFD.

Re: Anyone know reporting SOL for Medical Collections?

team,  SOL is set by each state...one state does not honor anothers

Few states have a law that preampts CRTP....in this case NY  is one of them. IF you do not live in NY  it doesn't apply!

SOL in Fl.  for this is 5 years (because you usually have to sign for treatment.

If it says that it will drop 10/2008  you are past SOL  let it drop

ummmmm you mention son in MS.   what are you saying???  did you or he move from 1 state to another?  need more info.

Here is one website that lists SOL's by state:

http://www.fair-debt-collection.com/SOL-by-State.html#7

bankrate.com has another: http://www.bankrate.com/brm/news/cc/20040116b2.asp?caret=8

The numbers for Maryland seem to be different on the two sites! Smiley Tongue

My understanding is that doctor bills are treated as "open accounts", or similar verbiage.

Sorry HappyDays for just getting back on this--

I was thinking that maybe the Medical Accounts could not be reported longer than 5 years in some states.

My son lives in MS (for the past 15 years) and has a lot of Hurricane Katrina med bills that he actually thought FEMA was to pay a portion of that were/are showing up on his reports.  I know his SOL for being sued is 3 years.  So that's not an issue.

I have one 2001 Med CA (for an MRI) that drops 10/2008 - which is the 7 year mark for me and I'm in FL.

I was just hoping that maybe somewhere some written statute is out there to utilize for these Medical Collections to drop off our reports sooner than the 7 - 7.5 year time frame.

Re: Anyone know reporting SOL for Medical Collections?

Maryland updated their SOL  but it isn't easy to read....To me it looks like almost everything is 3 years now.   except things that would be under public records or busness
