Apparently I've hit a bucket ceiling with my fico scores

My scores have climbed steadily from around the upper 500's late 2014 to eq 685,  tu 668, and ex 687 now.     Great compared to where I was a year ago.

But I think I may have topped out until some of my baddies fall off completely in 2017.  I have been at these scores for about 1 1/2 months.

In that time I have added about 15000 in cli through several cards, also had my report pulled at least once on all bureau's (twice on ex).  And added 2 new accounts.

My util is around 15% total because of one last CO that I will pay once I have saved enough up to contact them and arrange a decent settlement.  Maybe once that is paid and

i'm around 5% total util and I only let one card report a balance I'll know for sure if I'm capped.

Anyone have any thoughts.  Really would love to get to 700 by the first of the year.

Honestly you should not be woried about a bucket ceiling. There is too much going on with your profile. Since it seems to be in a state of flux, there is no way you can draw that conclusion, particularly after just 1.5 months. That's too much to conclude after such a short amount of time.

Focus on what you have done positively over the past year, continue to do that and the rest will take care of itself. Don't focus on an elusive thing like buckets and ceilings in lieu of what you can control like spending and utilization %, CLI and selectively opening new accounts.

$15,000 CLI, 2 new accounts, and new HPs can create a situation of no score change. Some things cancel out other things to neutralize a score increase in the short term.

Whether you get to 700 by the first of the year or in the spring, you should get there soon. Congrats on making progress.

With baddies is hard to go over 675. I got old baddies falling between now and January, and my score it's pretty much steady at 660, for quite some time now.

Yes to everything Redeyz said.   Yes, yes, yes, yes.

Especially liked "Don't focus on an elusive thing like buckets and ceilings in lieu of what you can control like spending and utilization %, CLI and selectively opening new accounts."  Really glad to see someone mention the issue of controlling spending.

1.5 months isn't any time in the credit world and you can't just expect a constant rate of score change.  Your scores improves when the data in your reports improves.  If you have derogs they will tend to hold you back.  Don't assume that you have to wait for them to fall off.  hit Rebuilding and carefully research to see if you can do anything about them.

It depends on the nature, number, and age of the derogs as well as the rest of the contents of the file. I have a tax lien from March 2008 that appears in my EQ and EX files, and the scores are 746 and 742.

Re: Apparently I've hit a bucket ceiling with my fico scores

I just went thru this feeling...almost 3 months with no change to credit scores...then it happened, a slight move up.  Patience is important, something we all seem to be lacking here in our group Smiley Happy

Because it wasn't paid off until March of this year.
