Hello great FICO gurus,
I am coming to you all for some direction! My crazy mother emailed me this morning telling me that she received 2 calls from collection agency named Allied Interstate. They are chasing her for $78.00 that she feels I did not pay for (Verizon Wireless bill) which she co-signed acct with me back in 1999. She said said in her email that "I hope hopes my credit is not ruined by this!" and Allied Interstate told her that this bill was from or before 2008. They supposedly had been sending me many corersondents to my address. She provided their number 1-800-204-6521.
I have been asking my crazy mother over the years to contact Verizon Wireless to get her off my acct, finally in 8/8/08 I became free and severed ties from her and established my own acct. (YEA!!). During the time we had a joint acct. (1999-2008) all bills were sent to me and I paid in a timely manner. When I switched to my own acct on 8/8/08 I told the gentlemen on the phone that I would pay my bill during our conversation and he said bill wasn't generate yet and that I would get billed for final amount ($78) on the new verizon account. I didn't even think twice and said ok.
I know darn well I haven't received anything from verizon because I would have paid the darn thing by right away to avoid dealing with crazy mother. I called Verizon Wireless this morning and explained what happened and if there was a physcial bill it should have come to me because the contact and address was listed under me. So I don't get it??!! The agent did see when I established my account but nothing about detailed notes from the dude that established my account back on 8/8/08 and he wasn't able to view my previous bills dating back to 8/08 time frame. I went online this morning and looked at my Verizon Wirelss acct and it only goes back to 2/09. I was hoping to see if I could view the first bill.
I'm angry that she is being contact and I don't want to see her credit be "ruined" by this. I know she has an immaculate, flaweless score!! Heck she pay their mortgage with their credit cards and pay it off right away. My finance and I just settled on a house on 1/15 and I'm suprised it didn't show up on my credit report.
So, please guide me and tell me if I should pick up the phone and call and talk to Allied Intersate (CA)and pay it off? I saw other posts that say not to, but I'm concerned about my crazy mother's credit score and how bad she will get dinked and mine . I do appreciated any help!
Thank you in advance!
Cheers!!
