Hey everyone,
I started participating here a few years ago and did amazing in building credit and accomplishing goals. This site allowed me to get my affairs in order to be able to buy a vacation/retirement home, refi our main home with the lowest rate EVER, buy the truck I wanted at a great price and rate and have solid access to other credit.
I tapered off my visits here during Covid, and during that time we started a quite large construction project at our vacation house: a metal barn aka our Amazon warehouse. We had cash saved up to buy the building from a neighbor, who had it laying in his yard unassembled, and found a contractor to assemble it. Of course when Covid hit, construction material prices went through the roof, and thankfully we were able to put in our order for the concrete foundation before prices went completely nuts. Fast forward to today, the construction is about 90% finished, it just needs the electrical wiring finished up. We ended up blowing thru a large chunk of our saving fairly quickly, and charged a bunch on our cards which we thankfully had plenty of room for.
I was blessed with a great job offer in November, which unfortunately did mean i would have to go back to work in the office. I calculated in the purchase of a car into my salary negotiations since I did not want to commute in my truck. They offered MORE than my ask and i gladly accepted. Kicker was that they wanted me to start quickly, which left me a little unprepared in the car department. My credit was looking meh at the time with all the construction purchases still in the process of getting paid for, and the used car market was still bonkers. The car I wanted ended up being on a crappy buy here pay here lot, and of course I went there without a prequal or anything. I took it home for a good price, but a whopping 14.99% rate (credit score was 681, high revolving balances).
December came along as well as bonuses, so thankfully we were able to pay down the cards strategically with help from these amazing forums, and with an unusual tax return. My new job is with a big company that has their own credit union on site, and today I signed my refi papers for 5.25% with them. My credit was pulled at 712, so while I do have more work to do, I am celebrating this as a win! ***** terrible car lot! Loving the car tho....
Sounds like things worked out pretty nice all the way around, congratulations!
