Bad Collections/Wrongful Collections - What to do?

If I had health insurance through my school and the school's insurance was supposed to pay for everything (they paid thousands but missed $6.00). Because of this $6.00, the health center I went to used my name for collections and is now detrimental to my credit score. This has been over 3 years but I just discovered this now. What can I do? To my knowledge, even if this is paid, the collections would remain on my report for 7 years. How can I get rid of this because it isn't even my fault. The health center and the school insurance should have worked this out. Thanks for your advice in advance!

What I would do is call the provider and try to get them to pull the account back from the CA and just let you pay. Explain to them the deal.

$6.00 collection is a bit outrageous. You probably made them almost go bankrupt not paying that!
