Bank accounts and their effect

Had a few question about having bank accounts.

Does having/opening more account effect anything in anyways? I know credit scores are affected by number of new accounts but this is towards credit/loans accounts only, not checking correct?

Does having a account with bank have any additonal bonus when applying for a credit card from the bank? Say if your with Chase and applying for one of their cards, will they look at you more favorably if they see how much money you have in your accounts? Or is this process done completely isolated from the banks themselves.

Also the main thing I wanted to know would having an account with a bank for a period of time help you out when applying for a mortgage. I was thinking about opening a few accounts(2-3) now, so in a few years I might have better look applying for a mortgage from each of these banks. Was planning Chase and BB&T since they are offering cash incentives right now. And then a local credit union that I know of. I would just opening account and deposit minimum amount to meet their no fees critea.

Thanks

Re: Bank accounts and their effect

Having money in the bank might help when making your statement of assets and liabilities, which the lendor will consider.

Stating you have $10,000 in assets stuffed in a mattress is not as convincing as having a bank statement showing that it is on deposit.

Many creditors will consider having other accounts with them as part of their decision making on grant of an addtiional revolving line of credit.

FICO does not score assets, so bank accounts would only enter into scoring by way of your age of accounts and the absence of any negative history, providing the bank even reported their bank accounts.  However, I see lendor benefit in showing money in the bank.
