Wacky (our current *uhum* "bank") has been taken over by Wells. Already, they're beginning with the stupid fees (they didn't have'em before the take-over). Honestly, we are so freakin' sick of Wacky -- we just want OUT.
Our current menu choices are:
NFCU
Pros: Great bank, highly recommended, great CCs
Cons: Our only branches are on "secure" bases (I can't get on the base without an escort -- and DH travels a LOT) so how in the world do I make deposits when the need arises??
USAA
Pros: Great bank, highly recommended, great CCs
Cons: Not local (obviously) and can't make immediate deposits (online via check scanning) unless the account's linked to a USAA CC -- and we don't know if we'd be approved for one
WaMu
Pros: Have a small checking account with them already and they gave DH a nice, prime CC with a nice CL, Website is nice and easy to navigate.
Cons: Their closest branch is roughly 100 miles away -- often we need to make deposits and they do not do online deposits (check scanning).
Any ideas? Suggestions? Opinions? We're really stuck here .... by the time we actually begin the "moving," DH's scores should be in the high, high 600s, possibly low 700s -- if that helps.
And we're not on "Chexsystems" either. If that matters.
Thanks!!!
No, it's not normal. It's tilting the scales in their favor, but it's not normal. Most banks, will post the deposits first if both a deposit and withdrawal came in at the same time (at least they used to). One of my CUs went to a new system a couple of years ago and it drives me crazy. Items post all throughout the day, realtime, whenever they come in. So let's say a w/d comes in at 1:00PM that would overdraw your account, but you are driving to the bank and get there to make your deposit at 1:02PM. Guess what? Overdraft fee will be charged--one for each w/d. Banks normally process all deposits and w/ds after 12:00AM nightly, deposits going first. I am all for fee income, but with some integrity please.

Also, if any of ya'll know which of the banks on my list do NOT do the stupid accounting crap that Wacky does (where they take all the debits/withdrawals FIRST rather than posting credits first).
Wacky's done this for YEARS. Our direct deposit will come in and show as "Available balance" -- but not as "posted" balance -- and several times, we've accessed the $$ and gotten charged overdrafts on it!
When I called to complain, they said that the deposit hadn't OFFICIALLY posted (though we had access to it and could see the $%^&#@ thing online) and the debits "posted" first. And we're talking about, say, my seeing the $$ in the bank (as "available") at 10pm at night, making a purchase at 1am, and the debit still posting BEFORE the deposit!!
Please tell me that ain't normal!?!

NFCU, as much as I love them in all other aspects, DOES engage in this icky and IMO underhanded practice as well.
NFCU will post your debits before they post any credits to your account. Let me make that clear --- if you have $10.00 in your account, and at midnight both a $10.01 charge and a $3000.00 deposit are presented for clearing, NFCU will process the charge first, kindly cover the $.01 and debit you a $20 OD fee for the "help" and THEN credit your $3000.00 deposit.
So if you can handle that one dirty practice, then NFCU is the way to go.
To address the other variety of the same practice you mentioned, NFCU just recently int he last month or so changed their online banking so that you can view your "pending" debits and forecasted account balance, as well. They used to only show cleared charges, so if you went into a spending fit at the mall, and then your DH went on a BestBuy spending fit that evening before you two communicated about said fits, you would get blasted with OD fees instead of your account being debited in real-time.
So that doesn't happen anymore

Charter One Posts Deposits First...at least for now.
I have NFCU with an o/d line. Deposits are an issue, so I am just keeping savings & using their o/d for my Charter One Account.
