So I filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy in Sept 2012 and was discharged 1/6/2013. I'm looking to move to another job that requires me to be able to obtain a Secret security clearance. Will the bankrputcy exclude me from being a) considered for the job and/or b) not able to obtain a Secret security clearance?
Pretty sure it won't automatically disqualify you from getting a clearance but they may have some extra questions regarding it.
The Bankrupcy will be a issue... Not a deal breaker per se but it will definitely be questioned... If its not mentioned... BRING IT UP when your asked if theres anything we should know about...
This is actually a good FAQ describing the typical security clearance process.. (happens to be for State Dept)

Took a look at the "Financial Considerations" related to the State Department. It pretty well says inability to meet debts and so on. Check that part out.
As Pizza said: it may not disqualify him, but it will be an issue.. Im hoping the original OP's score has had some repair by now... Very likely to disqualify higher level security clearances (personal opinion here) .. But not necessarily the lower one hes applying for..
Another good link http://jtmlawfirm.com/blog/2012/03/filing-bankruptcy-will-not-automatically-affect-a-security-clearance/
Theres a quote on that site that sums it up pretty well.. Do not want to try to cut and paste it here due to possible copyright issues

Thanks everyone for all the sound advice! I will review the websites shortly but it's good to know that Bankruptcy will not stop me from being able to get a security clearance.
