I'm not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask this question but here goes. Does anyone bank with any online banks? How has your experience been?
DW and I have 7 checking accounts and about the same number of savings between the both of us (they each serve a given function). With the exception of 2 accounts, we always ask for written statements but do all the transferring and payments online as opposed to using checks. We don't using any scanning program for deposits, but will deposit into one or two accounts and disperse the funds electronically as needed. We also avoid Bill Pay like the plague, though we always write electronic check through each payee's service. I think we wrote maybe a half dozen checks tops over the past year. I hope I understood the question anyway.
I bank with USAA online, and I love it. I've never laid eyes on one of their buildings, and I probably never will.
I don't get anything from them on paper if I can help it. They store all my documents (statements, etc.) online for 8 (?) years. Any checks that went through that month are displayed in pdf form, front and back. When a statement posts online, I verify that everything is correct. Never a problem. I suppose I might save them to my own disk, or something, if I get a spurt of organization. (Not likely to happen.)
I use the deposit-at-home feature, and my account is instantly credited. I don't have a smart phone, so I don't use that.
I do keep a checkbook register in order to keep a running balance going, and I balance and reconcile my account daily. (Never ever go with what the phone or computer tells you is your balance --there's probably something circling around out there, ready to hit.
) Looking at my register, the only paper checks I've written in the last 6 months or so are to church and one to a professional organization for membership dues, because for some reason they didn't have an online payment option. But boy, everything else is in there --payments on my CC's, insurance, you name it.
Online banking is great IF the bank has good customer service.
