Below Average?

I just became a member of the 700 club on my EQ CR.  I am at 709, but it tells me I am a little below the national average.  Also, it shows on this little chart that I am just "good."  When does this chart go to "Very Good" and if 709 is slightly below average, then what is above average?

Your Equifax FICO score is good

I thought that 700 was very good, and anything over 720 was perfect.  I would appreciate a correction of my obviously wrong views.  Thank you!

Starting Score: 583 EQ, 612 EX, 569 TU
Current Score: 658 EQ, 648 EX, 618 TU
Goal Score: 720 EQ, 720 EX, 720 TU

Re: Below Average?

Thank you, but I want the needle to go to "Very Good" !!!  And then "Great".  Any ideas on what scores it takes to make the needle move to those areas?

By the way, thank you for the congrats.  I am closer to my goal of all 700's.  However, EX hates me!  It is 668 Smiley Mad

Starting Score: 583 EQ, 612 EX, 569 TU
Current Score: 658 EQ, 648 EX, 618 TU
Goal Score: 720 EQ, 720 EX, 720 TU

Re: Below Average?

you are like the millionth person to ask this question. i really dont think there is a direct answer. i think a number of factors are taken inot consideration (util, no. of baddies, no. of total accounts, length of credit history, ability to overcome past credit challenges, etc.)

i think thats why some may have a fico of 670 for ex. and rate 'very good' or that pie chart whereas somone with a 700 has the capability to rate just 'good'

You have a good score! I believe in this illustration 720-759 is very good and 760 and over is great.

Re: Below Average?

Good info fused! TY.

Do you have the scoring ranges in that scoring speedometer? EG: Good = score 690-719(not real numbers, only for illustrative purposes), etc, etc.

I'd love to know that. Thanks Smiley Happy

Re: Below Average?

My FICO's are 709, 719, and 701 and they all show good. When I make it to 720 I will post if the chart changes me to very good.

Move to Lake Woebegon  Smiley Very Happy

Just in case you don't know, "Welcome to Lake Wobegon, where all the women are strong, all the men are good-looking, and all the children are above average."  It even has an effect named after it:

In 1987, John Cannell completed a study later popularized as the Lake Woebegone effect. He reported the statistically impossible finding that all states claimed average student test scores above the national norm. In addition to teaching for the test, he concluded that some teachers encouraged low-ability students to be absent on test days, helped students take the test and allowed outright cheating.

Re: Below Average?

Hey John, my scores all say very good, but they said "good" up until I hit the 720 mark. As for the average..My TU and EX scores say above average while EQ says about average. Hope that makes sense, keep boosting those scores!
