Hello and welcome to the forums.
Yes it can help you IF the account is older than any of yours (older than your current AAoA is even better), IF the payment history is long and clean, IF the utilization is very low, and IF it will report to the CRA's. Not all cards will do this. You need to ask the company first. You will inherit the entire history of this account. One caveat however; if this account starts to go south your credit will be affected as well. Keep that in mind.
Well on my report it says AAoA is 5 yrs, she's been with Amex since 2006...also
she never misses a payment n pays the balance in full each month, I believe...
the gold card she just recently got, roughly a month ago
4got 2 add my cap one was added last yr in the spring CL of 300, n hhb February of this
yr with same CL as cap one
After the wonderful world of separation, and the DEX taking all I had, as well as destroying what was in my name....
Yes, being an AU works wonders (with exception to manual underwriting).
Same sob story as most; had a lot/lost it all/rebuilding.
In my thrities, my wonderful mommy added me as an AU on her BOA visa (13k), and it opened doors a little sooner than my going by conventional means.
Most all the veterans on this site will tell you to tackle baddies first/foremost, and they're right, if you need to go that route as well. Opening cards prior to fixing will only help Mod Cut with AAOA.

It might also be a back-door way to camoflauge your actual credit score based on only your own credit history from others if you seek to do so.
With an AU in your file, their is no way for anyone to calculate a score based only on your own accounts.
Of course, that could also work to your detriment......
I have never been a fan of allowing AU to help FICO wise and I think it is improtant f you are a DW to establish your own credit. Eventualy FICO scoring will ignore it anyway.
As an additional card member on an Amex you probably won't get a bump in AAoA. Amex will likely date your cards for the current month and year and report them as such. The Gold card won't help or hurt your utilization while the BCE might actually hurt, depending on the utilization. You mentioned her utilization was 79%, which is close to maxed out.
The best benefit for FICO score would come from being an AU on a card other than an Amex that has low utilization and a long clean history.
