A poster over on "another forum" was in a lawsuit with Capone, and Capone submitted all of the posters posts from this "other forum" into evidence. This was startling, to say the least, and perplexing all at once.
Several of us scanned through this poster's posts, and we just weren't seeing ANYTHING that could even remotely be construed as illegal on the part of the poster. Seemed rather odd for Capone to do this, and it got many of us wondering so how did Capone know that poster XYZ (not really their user ID) and John Q. Citizen (also not their real name) were one in the same. Also, what exactly did Capone hope to gain.
Apparently the debt itself was not in question, but the amount owed was in question--and with a substantial difference of opinion between the two parties. Capone appears to have believed that the poster's posts were an admission and acknowledgement of the amount Capone claimed was owed. This did not work as the interest and fees were significantly reduced in the settlement the poster achieved in court.
All in all, there's nothing the poster posted that really hurt them. I think Capone was on a fishing expedition.
The poster made the mistake of posting enough personally identifiable information that Capone was able to troll info off the other forum and find out who the poster was. There can only be so many Jane Does (again not a real name) in County X being sued by Capone.
