Bounced Check

I recently had a collections account placed on my Equifax credit score. It was for an $18.00 check that I wrote to a convenient store. I had two checkbooks in my glove compartment and accidentally grabbed the wrong one. It was on a joint account that I have had for years but do not use. I did not receive any information in regards to the hot check until the Collections agency called me telling me that if I did not pay the account it would go on my credit report. I immediately paid the account and it is shown as paid but I would like to have it removed. I do not know the process to have it removed or if there is anything that I could do. I have been responsible with my credit history and hate to have this blemish. If anybody has any ideas please let me know.

Re: Bounced Check

I would write a letter to CA and notate that you were given an offer to comply in exchange for a non report, as well, notate that the collector (put his or her name) was not going to report if you PIF. Always remember for now on to have something in writing and never trust a collectors word. But if the CA refuses, I would file a complaint with the BBB. Good luck and keep us updated.

Re: Bounced Check

file complaints with the AGs in your home state and the CA's state AG, as well as with the FTC.

as for the CA, if they don't acknowledge their mistake, you can send them an ITS letter for breach of contract and, if the CA called but didn't send a dunning letter,  violation of FDCPA for $1,000.
