Building a credit score

I am new to the country, I have been here for one year. I invested in a business in this country and paid cash for this business. When I arrived I had no credit score and had to puchase everything I had in cash. This included two new cars all my furniture and household goods. I eventually managed to get a credit card in march 2008 with a $300 limit which I have been usuing and managed to open a Macy's account. at about the same time.

I still don't seem to have any credit score. I did have two credit cards in South Africa which had a combined credit limit of $17 500, which I managed well. I had a home mortgage which was also well managed.

I am now in a position of wanting to purchase a home and am frustrated by having to wait for my credit score. Is there any solution to this problem ?

Re: Building a credit score

Wait until the cards have reported for 6 months, then you should have a score.

Unfortunately, nobody cares about your previous credit history. I had the same problem 2.5 years ago. But you will get a score after 6 month.

Re: Building a credit score

I have a friend who moved here from the UK he didn't have a credit history he had credit with MBNA and a couple of other creditors that have entities over here in the US so he asked the UK creditors to vouch for him with their US counterparts and he was able to get cards with them. That jump started his credit building here. He did have pristine credit in the UK. I know this doesn't really give you back your already established history but it might help someone who might be in that situation.
