CCCU - Approval Question

Good Morning,

My Experian Score is current 635.  The only negative blemish is a fed tax lien that posted in 03.  I am still paying on that. In addition I have a relatively short credit history.  Because of some credit problems that I had in my late 20s, I lived the past 15 years paying cash for everything.  All of my negs that I had back them have since drooped off.  I current have 3 cards.

Credit One 200/54 established in Feb 07
Capital One 300/63 Established May 07
CitiBank Platinum Premier 500/0 June 07

I'm sure it would be helpful to know that I was recently denied credit from Delta SkyMiles AmEx, Hooters and Wamu.

My question is do you think I would be approved by CCCU.  I would like to close out my low CL cards and carry one card that carries a $2000 - $3000limit.  I plan to continue to pay most purchases with cash, but I would like to know that I have credit available (safety net) in the event of an emergency.

What are your thoughts

Re: CCCU - Approval Question

You will start getting denials for too many inquires and too many new accounts if you keep applying all over. My brother in law was denied by CCCU but his score was about 20ts lower than yours when he applied. I would use what you have for another 3-6 months before you apply anywhere else. This will help you in the long run because you won't have 20 inquires and only 3 or 4 low limit credit cards to show for it. Patience is the best thing you can work on right now IMO. Good luck and I would concentrate on getting that lien paid off.

Re: CCCU - Approval Question

Its a combination of score and DTI ratio. You need to at least have an EX score of 600 to even get a sniff but you also need to have a good DTI also. They will look at your CC balances and such along with the baddies. They will give you a chance to explain the baddies and from what others say they are extremely nice people to deal with.
