No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
I have a new credit union visa w/ a fairly new local credit union. I thought the csr who gave me the card said that they would take my payments automatically from checking acct.
Well, of course they didn't. And of course I'm late. On my first PAYMENT and on my new decent credit!! OH GOSH. I found this out yesterday when reading the statement (Which I almost didn't even do!)
So anyway, I logged on and paid it via transfer, but boy oh boy, I'd be kicking my arse to heck and back if I hadn't have caught this. It was only 15 days late or so, no late fees were added, I'm calling Monday just to make sure I'm good, but GEESH!
Just a friendly reminder to all of us to make sure of these things. (It sure is a pain in the arse to take care of all of this, but easier than fixing it if we don't in the first place). I practically had a heart attack.
Ya'll think I'll be okay, right?
Phew ! Good catch ! Yeah, I am paranoid am making my payments ~ I have multiple calender alerts and reminders pop up around the 10th of the month every month to go in and make sure that my payments are scheduled for all my cards. And I try to double check them all month long too.
I imagine that you'll be ok ~ you could even check in with the CU and explain the mix up about the auto~draft not starting.
I would go in to the CU and ask to speak to a supervisor. I would explain that the CR told you you were set up for autopay, and this was obviously NOT the case. Ask the supervisor to do it "right" this time, and to make sure that there is absolutely no AA against you for the "their" mistake. An attitude of having been wronged, and wanting a competent person to fix everything so that you do not suffer future "wrongs" might be enough to prevent AA against you.
Ask how you can tell if it goes through properly this time. I think you might have caught it fast enough, and CU's tend to be more personal and accomodating.
Hope it all works out. Let us know.
Exactly why I do not participate in auto-pay. I am my own auto-pay.
I did get a late fee but they waived it. PHEW!

I'm glad they did that for you Booner.
I have autopay on many of my accounts and have never had a problem but I always schedule the payment far enough ahead so that I can verify the transfer was made successfully and if not I have time to fix the problem.
IMO autopay is helpful but the consumer still has the final responsibilty to make sure it works correctly.
I would make sure that the error is not compounded by reporting of the late to the CRAs.
It would not become a reportable late until more than 30-days past the billing due date.
I did make sure of that! That was my most biggest worry, second was my history with the Credit Union, lastly the 20 bucks.
