I am confused as I was looking at my credit report, and where it says notes, it says, "Your Statement:
Account information disputed by consumer (Meets requirement of the Fair Credit Reporting Act)."
I have never disputed this account though. Any ideas why this may be?
Have you ever sent a DV letter? Sometimes that will pop up after the CA gets one.
....or send a GW letter or even call them?
Call the bureau and have them remove the tag.
Yes I will call them today. It is just very odd because it is on all three credit bureaus. Never have sent any letter or anything.
I tried calling but can only get automated numbers. I never disputed this account or even did anything regarding the account and it is frustrating. Do I just dispute the "Dispute" online? I'm super confused as to how that possibly got on there, and how I get it off. I have read some things online and seems it's hard to get it off your account.
I would not start by disputing it. That would be a catch-22. Your dispute of the recording of a dispute would add a legitimate dispute!
Try to work it informally through the CRA first. This information is stored in your credit file under a field called the "Condition Compliance Code," which is their way of tracking compliance with disputes filed under the FCRA.
There is nothing to ask for "goodwill" deletion of, as their reporting was just plain inaccurate.
If you really want to find how and why this information was recorded in your credit file, I would suggest you simply send a request to the CRA under FCRA 609(a)(1), which entitles you to receive any information in your credit file, and who reported it. Such requests require the payment of a fee (FCRA 612(f)), which is currently $10.50.
That way, you dont have to file a dispute to at least see how and why it was reported.
Gotta love how other peoples mistakes cost me money.... anyway, lets say i leave it on there, what are the affects on my credit score or approvals for cards and loans?
Any chance it would come off by itself after a period of time?
Anyone?
