Can I do anything about this?

Hi,

I'm new and NOT very versed in financial lingo so please bear with me ......

I just pulled my FICO score via this website, and it was good, slightly above the national average.  There weren't any major blemishes except the revolving CC debt (which I knew about and am working on) and a 90 day late payment on an old loan from 2005 (which I didn't know about).  This late payment is showing up as a "delinquent account" on the report.

Basically what I remember about that loan was that it was a private consolidation loan from Bank of America, which I had for several years.  I never had a late payment but towards the end of the loan (with only $450 left) I had an illness and missed some payments.  Upon getting back home I quickly paid the whole thing off and thought that was the end of it.  Apparently, they reported it to the credit agencies, which I just realized now upon pulling my report.  I'm a little upset because at the time I did discuss the late payments with the Bank of America customer service and explained why it was 90 days late.  They seemed fine with the explanation and I paid the whole thing in full in one lump payment soon after that.  They never told me this was going to get reported.

Is there anything I can do to make this situation better at this point?  Or do I just have to wait it out?

All you can do is either wait it out for the 7 yrs or send them a GW letter.

Thanks, I just read through those links.  Do you know of any links that will show me how to do a GW letter?

There's no form to a GW. IMO, keep it very short. Be relaxed and friendly.

What I suggest is that you contact bank of america asap and speak with the head person in that bank and explain to him or her again what had happen to cause you be 3 months behind and let them know you had paid the balance in full. Let them know how this negative report looks bad on your credit and that you would like for them to consider removing the negative report. I am positive this will work. If not then dispute it with all three credit reporting agencies.
