Can I do something about this?

The original loan was charged off and is no longer on my credit report. The balance on here is not what was owed, but the original loan amount. The car was bought in 2001 and repo'd in 2003. Can I dispute this? Do I have a leg to stand on? This is really affecting my Equifax credit report.

Re: Can I do something about this?

This appears to be a CA account. Whether you owe $8400 or $0, the damage is the same. It can remain on there for 7-7.5 yrs from DOFD, which possibly appears to be 11/2002. Likely it would come off this coming November.

Are you out of SOL? Did you make any payments since the repo date?

I purchased this car in Febuary of 2001. I'm in California. I haven't made any payments since I purchased this car.

No, and if I did I didn't owe $8,400 on that car so I wouldn't be willing to pay them $8,400.

Re: Can I do something about this?

I would get the full report directly from the CRA and verify the accuracy of reporting, and then take it from there.

Re: Can I do something about this?

When you say verify the accuracy of reporting, do you mean do a DV to the CA? Or do I dispute it with the CRA?

Re: Can I do something about this?

i mean getting the report directly from the CRA and verify that ALL information reported about this account (account type, account status, dates, amounts, etc., etc.) are 100% correct. If they are not, the CA is in violation. if that is the case, you can sue the CA in small court for violation of the FCRA. in most cases, the way to settle this would be through removal of the tradeline.
