Today I lost 19 points from my equifax credit score due to a recently updated account. Maybe I should have left well enough alone, but a recent report from EX showed one of my accounts having a balance of $108, and that I had been 120 days late every month since 2006. This was incorrect as I had settled the account for a zero balance and it was closed. Score watch first alerted me of the change on 12/22/06 with the following information, 0 balance, at least 120 days or more than four payments past due, and settlement accepted on this account. The alert received today reads 0 balance, bad debt placed for collection, settlement accepted on this account, paid charge off. So I am figuring my recent dispute with EX caused the update with EQ? This baddie is supposed to fall off in in 2010. Before I do anything else to make me lose more points I thought I would ask here is there anything I can do to get those 19 points back. totally bummed over this.

No, that should not have happened. The OC makes monthly reports of account status, and also reports “Payment History Profile” going back 24 months from the date of the last month they reported.
Once the account is closed and then paid, the OC will then update their account as paid with $0 due, and discontinue further monthly reporting. If they do continue reporting, the new report code should have shown paid, $0 due that month, and no update of Payment History Profile should have reported a subsequent monthly delinquency.
A CA does NOT report or update Payment History Profile. This is only done under the OC account.
Once an OC settles an account as paid, they are required to withdraw the account from collection, and the CA is required to delete their collection account.
Contact the OC. This should be relatively easy to correct.
