Can someone please help me with CA issue?? :(

I received a new copy of my credit report and found a collection on my account (under $200). This was back in September. I send a PFD and validation request letter and never received a response. Against everything I know, I called the collection agency today. They pulled my file and the collection account is for a "cleaning fee" from my old apartment. I moved in 2006 and was told if anything was owing, that I would receive a bill. I never received a bill and was never aware I was owing anything. When I spoke with the collection agency today, it was verified that all bills and notices had been going to a wrong street address. I did give my apartment my correct forwarding address and they screwed up. The CA refused to do anything about this and insisted they would not delete if I paid it in full. I asked them (pleaded with them) to help me out here since this will be on my report for a long time and I never received a notice. They told me that it was my responsibility to find out about bills I might or might now owe (bull!!) whether I ever receive a notice or not. The conversation ended with the man on the phone saying "I'll tell you what? I'm going to hang up the phone and immediately report to the credit bureaus that you verbally refuse to pay this." And then he hung up. What, if anything, can be done about a collection that I never received notice for and the collection agency has admitted an incorrect address was on file?

I will say one thing. I learned my lesson never, ever to deal with these low-lifes on the phone.

Call your old apt complex and ask if they still own the account - if they do then SEND THEM via mail a PFD and in it note that they sent the bil  to the wrong address and you are willing to pay now and were willing to pay then - but they never contacted you so you want it off your CR. They can instruct the CA to delete.

Re: Can someone please help me with CA issue?? :(

As LADY-S  said    BUT  If they OC says that you owe anything ask for a detailed list of the debt! in writing!!!

Check the list of what the charges are for, If you belive that it is correct then PFD the OC as LADY said.

ALSO  check your CRs  IF the CA reports......send the 1 more DV letter CMRRR    NO PFD at this point!!

If they do not answer within 30 days.....send a copy of the DV letter  the CR# and copy of the GC to any CRA that is reporting.............dispute the report & tell the CRA  that (statue# ) says that if a CA doesn't validate with in 30 days that they CAN NOT verify...Please delete!!

keep in mind that the CRAs do not know what a DV is so you have to tell them.
