Cannot Access CR online with TU?, Someone tried to access my account 5 years ago.

I will try to keep this brief. Have not used my credit in the past 5-6 years (at all). Want to buy a home by the time I am 30 (27 now). Need to start focusing more on this (which I really should have done much sooner).

So, get my EX and EQ online no problem. Try to get TU (which according to MyFico is my highest score), and it says I already have a account. Hmmm, do the forgot password. And I get the error that my account has been suspended due to, to many login attempts. Call this number etc....

Call the number, they give me a new number 18662122170. Call that number, and speak with a person. That informs me that someone by "such and such name, based on the creditcard information used", tried to access my credit report back in 03. But he does inform me that they did not gain access. Ok, that stinks. But it was 5 years ago, so I am thinking random fluke. Then he tells me, that I need to file a Police Report....

Just being frustrated at the time, I don't really pursue it to much. But I do that, that I do not see how filing a police report would do any good what so ever. As it is 5 years old, and it will be next year and then some before our local police would even think to care about it. And even then, what could they do about it? And how is this going to unlock my account? He did tell me, that my TU account is not frozen, just the online portion.

I am going to try to call again tomorrow, and if I get the same answer talk to someone higher up. Do any of you have any suggestions?
Thanks in advanceSmiley Happy

Bumping for more responses.

So far, I agree --call back and hope for someone more helpful. Someone could have very easily accidentally typed in your SSN by accident. The fact that they didn't get in supports that possibility.

TU is a PITA. My SO tried to purchase Truecredit got as far as what was your high school mascot. I know she has never tried to access the site. We were able to get a free report from TU but they have cut her off from any online dealings. They are most definitely out of control. We had to go to ChaseIDProtection.

I encountered the same problem with TU.  I called the customer service line....it gives you several options....I think I pressed 1....

The old account was created when I got a free annual credit report from them a year or so ago.  I forgot the sign in name and password and couldn't remember the answer to the secret question.  After an extensive amount of questioning (regarding TLs etc) the rep reset the account info and emailed it to me.

My advice would be....have a credit report from EQ or EX sitting in front of you so you can answer most of the questions the rep will ask....that's the only way I got the account "Reset".

I agree with kids.

I've had to call TU up a few times and get my information reset and sent to my email.

Have you ever tried pulling your free reports through www.annualcreditreport.com
