Cannot access Equifax online dispute

Hi everyone,

Is anybody else having issues accessing the Equifax online dispute form?  I have not been able to access it for OVER a year and am getting increasingly frustrated and irritated.  There are some old medical bills that were paid by my insurance company that are showing as collection accounts.  They are literally the only negatives on my Equifax report, so I want to dispute them to try and get them removed, but every time I try, I get this error:  "We are sorry, our online system is unavailable at the moment. Our consumer care team is ready to assist you with that. Please call us at 866-446-3448 between 8:00 AM until 12:00 AM EST, seven days a week so that we can help."  I have emailed Equifax's customer service MULTIPLE times with absolutely no response whatsoever, even though their automated reply says that they will respond within 24-48 hours.  I finally had enough free time today to be able to call and I waited on hold for nearly an entire hour before I finally got someone, who barely spoke any English.  He was beyond useless and simply told me to "clear my cookies" on my computer and try again in about an hour.  I told him that this is NOT a cookie issue, that I have been getting this same error for well over a year whenever I try to access their online dispute, and I have gotten it on several different computers and using different web browsers.  I then asked to speak with a supervisor because he clearly was not nearly competent enough to fix this issue and he hung up on me.  Unreal!

Has anyone else experienced this?  Am I going to have no choice but to copy and paste the accounts that I want to dispute into a Word document, print it out, and then mail it?  I don't have any of these problems with Transuion or Experian!  I did just file a Better Business Bureau complaint against Equifax for whatever good that may do.

Re: Cannot access Equifax online dispute

You should be doing your disputes by regular mail - certified return receipt - anyhow.

Re: Cannot access Equifax online dispute

I will do that if I have to, but I really prefer to do my disputes online as I have done with the other two bureaus since it is much faster.  My wife and I are trying to purchase a new home, so I would like to get this dispute in sooner rather than later.

Re: Cannot access Equifax online dispute

I'm not able to access the Equifax dispute section either. Despite recieving emails from them letting me know that my dispute is completed - when I try to log in it either times out or I get a message saying they can't verify my identity. Equifax is an abomination. It seems like they're using some creaky old 1970s mainframe running first gen COBOL.

Maybe file a complaint with the CFPB? That's the only way I've ever got Equifax to fix anything at all. They are, hands down, the worst CRA out there. Lol, another issue I have with them is that they refuse to report my correct current address- mind you, I moved 7 months ago and have 12 open accounts reporting my correct address for 7 months now. And my current address shows up in my profile section of the EQF website. But on my report? Nope. Equifax still showing my 7 month old address..morons. It really paints a picture of what the daily office routines must be like in their operations offices in Bangalore.

Hi and welcome

Yes, you have to, because right now, that seems to be the fastest way to get it handled. There's no way in you-know-what I would have been dealing with this issue for two weeks, much less a year.

Yep, do it the old fashion way--snail mail. And as SteelerNYC said, Certified, return receipt requested.

Re: Cannot access Equifax online dispute

They are just terrible!  I could hardly even understand the guy who I spoke with on the phone at Equifax today.  I did file a BBB complaint against them after he hung up on me, but I never even thought about the CFPB.  I will do that next.  I seriously have been trying to submit this dispute with Equifax for nearly 2 years now and cannot gain access to it!  I have had absolutely no troubles whatsoever with the other two bureaus.  Equifax should be shut down!

I guess I will have to do it by mail.  I really have had no time to deal with it as I work many, many hours

and have been traveling all over the country this past year for work.  I am finally having a bit down time and am just getting back around to dealing with it.  I wil just copy and paste all of the items that I want to dispute into a Word document, print it out, and snail mail it the old fashioned way.  What a huge inconvenience.  It's almost 2020.  We should not have to be snail mailing these sorts of things!

Re: Cannot access Equifax online dispute

I have had this issue twice. Luckily I got someone who was immediately familiar with the issue. Both times they transferred me to tech support person for the online portal. They reset my account and I could access the dispute section right away while they were on the phone.

I like said I was lucky because the person spoke like it was a known issue. Call back and tell them you want to speak to tech support for the web site. Do not explain the issue to the first person. Do not ask for a supervisor. They will just give you the normal nonsense as you have already experienced. They are trained to answer credit report questions not website related issues. Also look up when they "open" and call first thing. It will cut your hold time down by 75%. Good luck.

I have gotten the same response from EQ as the OP for the last year also. I don’t know what the problem is.

Re: Cannot access Equifax online dispute

btw I just want to add, the first time it happened I was told the usually stuff. System must be down, reboot, try again, clear cache. I called back a few days later and that is when I got someone who seemed familiar with the issue and sent me to website tech support to reset my account.
