Cap 1 Auto ? (sorry if it's a repeat)

I have started receiving these pre-approved offers from Cap One as pre-approval for new/used vehicle - does anyone have experience with this?

Thanks in advance!

Thank YOU!  I just shredded their offer!  Are they worse though than 23.25% per DAY?  I have a CC with them but am strongly considering cancelling because they don't report CLs

If you're looking for a good auto loan deal, go to a credit union. Of course you have to have an account w/ one first... Smiley Wink

It doesn't hurt to have an extra savings or checking. Smiley Wink I also have US Bank checking and would never consider switching. They're the most convenient bank I've ever known.

Hi ~
As we allllll know, I used to work for Cap1 Auto.
While I wouldn't go so far as to totally trash them ( I was a GOOD person to talked to if I answered your call!) - I'm not sure that I would personally finance a car through them.

Re: Cap 1 Auto ? (sorry if it's a repeat)

My fondest memory of Cap 1 Auto was when I was traveling alot and just plain missed the payment date.  I swear I was 5 days off and I get a phone call, then another, then another...In one day I received 18 calls from Cap 1.  Yes I should have paid on the 15th and here it was the 20th when I paid.  Even better, after you pay, they still call for a couple of days until the payment updates in the system.  Obviously they were in the right to call me but seriously?

Later in the year I got a company car and was able to release myself from one of my two auto loans.  Hmmm, who to choose ...... Cap 1!

Re: Cap 1 Auto ? (sorry if it's a repeat)

Thanks for the info, it really helps...I cannot WAIT to get out of my horrific auto loan and was getting tempted by their pre-approval offers.

I don't have horror stories, I missed one payment on my Cap One in 2004 by one day because I was running an event and working 18 hours that day...no grace I will say that but it never hit a 30 day late, they just zapped me the late fee...

Again much appreciated!

Re: Cap 1 Auto ? (sorry if it's a repeat)

Here's how it works at Cap1 - and I'm sure this applies to a lot of companies:

When your due date passes, and payment has not posted, the auto-dialer starts dialing your number. It will call until someone answers. Now, when I worked there, we were supposed to put right up front how much was due. I, however, let the customer tell me WHY he was calling. I would always try to do everything I could to help that person with their account- whether it was figure out how to get caught up, how to make two half-payments a month, etc. I know people want to pay their bills (generally speaking) and sometimes we run into roadblocks. Hey - crap happens! I always recommend that if a creditor calls - go ahead and pick up the phone, even if all you can say is "I don't know when, how, or if I will be making this payment." After a company talks to you, they shouldn't call again in the same day.

Like I said earlier, I'm not sure if I personally would finance a car through Cap1. Not saying I wouldn't- not saying I would. Just sayin'!
