When I was clearly heading into a Chapter 7 BK, Cap 1 had a nice and knowledgable person call me to try to work out my situation before it was too late. She was truly energetic and as helpful as she could be, given that it was her job to get as much out of me as possible. When we had exhausted all other avenues, she ran a credit check on me and noticed that I had thousands of dollars of unused credit that was held by other CC issuers. This is where it went south -- she strongly encouraged me to do a balance transfer to the other cards, and she backed it up with a major debt forgiveness offer if I agreed to do that (of course, there would be a 1099 involved). She knew I would be filing bankruptcy, so that was pretty scummy. That was when I stopped taking her calls. Matter of fact, that was when I stopped feeling really bad about what I was going to do, and started to sleep better at night.
