What's the aversion to showing them the ID and proof of address?

Put yourself in a lender's shoes- wouldn't you want to verify the person and address if you're loaning them thousands of dollars?

Not only does a lender want to, legally, the HAVE to because of the Patriot Act where they are required to "know" who they are lending money to.

Ive had situations where not only did I have to take a picture of my DL, but also take a selfie of myself with it!

Then, there was some bank that required facial scans using my cell phone.  It's all getting pretty creepy!

Re: Cap One asking for ID

Recently Cap1 (along with other banks) has started to crack down on CPNs and is now doing SSN verification with the SSA for new applications.  I have a feeling that might have something to do with it, even if you are using your own social, they might be going back and reviewing people's IDs.

Re: Cap One asking for ID

Yea I suppose there is a bit of principle for me and I get that some need to really verify identity. What bothers me is not only just get a hard stop with no explaination after many years, they wont give me one when I asked. Its the lack of any information or reason that is making me not want to coorperate with them.

I understand that is frustrating!  However, that is also for your protection.  It is a chicken and egg thing:  without verifying you, they can't know that you are who you say you are... in which case, they aren't going to give you information that could potentially help an identity thief circumvent verification.  If you have verified, then they know you are who you say you are... but by then, you no longer need the information.

It is sort of like the Secret Service.  They refuse to give out any information about what security measures are being taken for protectees or at events because that information can be used to circumvent the security procedures.

Anyway, sorry if this seems like I'm beating a dead horse.  In short -- it is annoying and frustrating... that bank where I had to take a selfie of me holding out my license, I made an obscene hand gesture and stuck out my tongue in the selfie... they still accepted it.  If they hadn't, I would have just closed the account and not looked back!
