Capital One Credit Tracker

About 7 months ago I started rebuilding my credit. It's steadily going up. Last month my capital one credit tracker score was 559 and today when I checked it, it went up to 611. How accurate is that tracker and is that even possible to jump that much?

The CapOne credit tracker is not a Fico score but a Vantage score which is used very little by major creditors so it's value is very limited.  Credit scores can jump that much or even more in one month depending on what changes occurred during that time period such as a significant drop in balances, a collection or other type of 'baddie' dropping off and a few others.  Even though the CapOne score doesn't mean a lot if shows progress which is the key element.  I would suggest some time, now that you're rebuilding, to get your Fico scores so you can see where you really stand.  Good luck in your continued progress

Re: Capital One Credit Tracker

Yes it's definitely pissible to jump 52 points in 7 months, but the Capital one credit tracker score isn't worth looking at. It's not even the same score that capital one themselves showed me recently. For scores, use real fico scores from other credit card issuers, as well as CCT/MyFico websites imo. It's also EXTREMELY SLOW when showing new changes. I've had a uti change for like a month now, which shows on all other websites, yet that credit tracker STILL shows the old uti %. Also, the credit score simulator doesnt even work for me. I can literally change all settings & the score is still the same.

Re: Capital One Credit Tracker

thank you for your help. I just couldn't believe it went up that much in a month. I'm going to definitely purchase my fico scores.

Re: Capital One Credit Tracker

All scores are accurate but only for their own model.  You cannot use a score generated by one model to determine a score generated by another model.  That's not what accurate means.

CO's Credit Tracker provides a TranUnion New Account Model score which is not used by any creditor.

https://www.capitalone.com/credit-cards/benefits/credit-tracker/
Your Credit Tracker score is calculated based on the TransUnion New Account Model.
Always consider the specific scoring model and CRA as well as whether or not a given combo of the two are relevant to a given creditor.  Creditors do not all use the same model so you cannot simply assume that you can rely on one single score as "accurate".  Even FICO has many models used by creditors.  See also the Understanding FICO Scoring subforum and its stickies.  In other words, if, for example, Discover is one of your creditors and they use an Equifax FICO 8 then you need to refer to your Equifax FICO 8 score and not any other model or any other CRA.  A different creditor may use a different model and/or CRA.

Sure.  All depends on your profile and the changes.

Re: Capital One Credit Tracker

I've found the capital one tracker to almost match my true fico score. It's only off by a few points. It's a good tool and definitely not worthless.

It doesn't matter if it matches your true fico score or not - it isn't a fico score and should not be used to estimate your fico score. It has a completely different algorithim.

Why use a score to track your progress that isn't used by lenders? IMO it is a waste of time to use a replacement score that has no use in the financial world when your actual score is readily available. In addition to that, I find that the cap one credit tracker is slow to update at all - old balances lead to inaccurate scores. Add that to the formula that isn't FICO and what do you have? A score that is worthless.

Re: Capital One Credit Tracker

I don't even use the link anymore as it has my score around 75pts. lower than what any of myFICO scores are and it hasn't changed in 5 months.

Re: Capital One Credit Tracker

I know it isn't a Fico model but it isn't a bad model.  When my TU got pulled it notified within hours and when the new account reported it did also.  Whenever it updates and and my grade for a category goes up, its like a little pat on the head and invigorates me to keep up my good work.

Re: Capital One Credit Tracker

My tracker literally still shows the same old info from months ago. It's on par with how slow MyFico is on updates.
