Changing Reported Date Legal???

Can an OC change the date on the Reported secion of your CR?

I disputed an item from NewPort News.

On my old credit report the reported date was 4/2007.  (pulled 9/24/07)

On my new credit report the reported date is 1/2008.  (pulled 2/26/07)

Won't this add another year to the drop off time?

Can they do this legally?

Re: Changing Reported Date Legal???

A "reported date" is the last time a CA updated, it's not your DOFD, which deals with when a baddie will drop off.

Date Reported: The date of the collection agency's last update to this account record.

How can you find the DOFD?  I subscribe to True Credit and get all 3 reports but don't see this information.  thank you.

Re: Changing Reported Date Legal???

When I had FCR service and clicked dispute online with EXP I was able to see the drop-off dates when I clicked the negative accounts for more info. I used EQ for a month and I saw the actual DOFD via their service online. I've read you can call each CRA and ask them -- I have never tried this, but again I've read it's possible. I don't know of any way to see it with TC. I was told to get a hard copy of all 3 of my reports because it's on there, and it's true. I only got a hard copy of TU and the DOFD is on there.

Someone else might know a better way, but those are the only ways I know of getting/seeing the DOFD.

Re: Changing Reported Date Legal???

km..........if you have TC, go to the dispute section, I did EX - in order to dispute an item(s) you need a report number. So, print out your EX report - all the drop off dates are there.
