Charge-Off/Past Due Reporting

Hi,

I have an old BOA credit card account that was charged-off and closed by the bank in June 2004. However, BOA continue on a monthly basis to report the account with a past due balance even though it was charged off as bad debt..

Should I dispute the account with BOA or the credit bureaus, because the current past due status is seriously effecting my credit scores?

Thanks,

Re: Charge-Off/Past Due Reporting

I was in the same situation with Cap One.  I don't know the answer to your question, but I ended up paying a settlement to Cap One resulting in $0 bal due and $0 past due.  My scores then improved.  You may want to consider a PFD.

In the last 6 months, they've gone up 80 points - mostly due to paying off the charge offs.

Re: Charge-Off/Past Due Reporting

See, I wasn't going to get into my situation with BofA yet, given that I don't have the all the money to deal with them and I want to just wipe them away in one swoop, the bastards!  ooops! sorry!Smiley Surprised
My situation is similar, and I alluded to it in an earlier thread.

I fell behind on 3 CCs and eventually put them in a DMP and thought everything was going ok. I was able to check the other 2 given that I had online banking with them, and the balances were/are going down drastically (praise God almighty!).  I would call BofA to check given that they refused to send me a bill, all those times on the phone with CS and no one said anything, although I did find it strange whenever I called to get the balance they bounce me around.  But no, alarm sounded, the balance was/is going down.

Pulled my CR 3 weeks ago, the bloody account is charged off and showing almost all of the balance as past due and every month reporting in the payments section as either KD or CO.  So I called them and was like, but I have the proposal from the DMP saying you accepted the terms of the proposal and you would re-age the account. Oh, no Maam we can't reage.  Ok, well then why the heck are you reporting a past due when you've been receiving payments every month? Well Maam, the payments aren't enough to cover the interest.  It isn't?  Well then how in the heck is my balance going down, what kinda math are you guys using?  Couldn't answer.

As I said, I'm not quite ready to deal with them, I should be in another 2 months or so. The balance is  about $3700 down from about $5900.  What do I do?  HELP!!!!!

Rocket when you paid off the charge offs were they deleted, or are they still showing on your reports?

Re: Charge-Off/Past Due Reporting

Yes they are.  I paid them off before knowing about PFD.  I've sent GW letters in hopes that they will delete the accounts.

Re: Charge-Off/Past Due Reporting

Can I ask you how you did this.  I have most of  my credit cleaned up and this capital one charge off/past due reporting is one of a couple of negative things on my report right now.  I would like to know how and what to do so that it will affect my FICO in a positive way.  Thanks,

Same situation with Citi Auto. Once I started paying the CO --before fico--- all went bad on my reports.
