I've been trying to put a lot of usage through my Chase card as of late, with PIF as well. I'm wondering if it looks better to Chase, or any other company for that matter when reporting, if I am to let the balance report and then PIF since Chase will update the report to reflect the paid off status once I do? Or is it better to just pay it before the statement closing date?
I've been trying to show Chase some love in order to warrant a good future relationship/CLIs/possibility of getting a better card with them in the future once my COs fall off.

No, it doesn't look better to let the balance report and then PIF.
I'd agree that it doesn't look any better to Chase to let a balance report. They know what you're spending. What they like is good use of their cards, and exceptional payment habits.
Ok, cool. Thanks for the insight and advice, @SouthJamaica and @JoeRockhead !
I'll plan to keep heavily using the card and providing a lump PIF before statement closing date.

I will sometimes specifically keep something like a $1 balance on a Chase card rather than clearing the entire current balance to $0 just to keep from running afowl of the "no cards with a balance" credit score penalty, in case I don't calculate my timing on another card correctly. I can pay off the card immediately at any time to have FEWER cards with a balances, but that huge point hit for no cards is annoying.
