Chase did not send me my bill and raised my rate from 3.9% Fixed to 30%!

Chase did not send me my bill and raised my rate from 3.9% Fixed to 30%!

I simply can't believe Chase did not send me a bill for my credit card and then raised my rate from 3.99% Fixed to basically 30% (actually 29.99%). I believe they did not send me a bill because I recieved a bill for my other Chase card (formerly a WaMu card) with no problems. I had a 3.99% Fixed rate from a special offer for a balance transfer a long time ago and it was 3.99% Fixed until the balance was paid off.

Like I said before, I believe they did not send the bill. If they don't send a bill to a group of people there is a good chance there will be people missing payments. I could this being advantageous to them if they want to use this as an unethical way to try and get people out of previous agreed to rates such as 3.99%.

I called Chase up originilly thinking that I was due for a bill since I had not recieved one. I go over my Finances once a month. The lady on the phone apologized and said the late fee would be waived. I immediately mailed the payment in. Then to my horror when I recieved my next bill the late fee was on there and my interest rate was raised to 29.99%. I called Chase three times after this and told each person of my situation and how I had not received a bill and the previous girl said the fee would be waived. Not one person would waive a fee or lower the rate. I even talked to a supervisor and everytime I got the same line not their problem. I felt like they were all just reading a script and were instructed to not waive any fees or lower any rates.

At this point, I don't know what to do but I told them Chase has defaulted on their agreement with me and I will not pay a dime.

Any suggestions as to anything else I can do?

Is the chase account a recent open account?  If not, and you received bills before, I doubt if their would be any adjustments.  With that steep increase it may be time to pay the account in full and stop using it.  Do you not access your account via Chase website? Signup to receive your bill online.

Re: Chase did not send me my bill and raised my rate from 3.9% Fixed to 30%!

I personally think this kind of treatment is outrageous. If you don't get a bill for you car or house and the payment goes in a few days later than they expected you do not get penalized with a late fee or a raised interest rate. Usually, on a car or house payment you have to be more than 15 days late before they institue a late payment fee and then they will still not raise your interest rate?

Why should we a credit card holders accept this kind of treatment? Why should I honor my end of the agreement and pay Chase anything if I think they are not upholding their end of the bargain?

I dont know if its true with all banks during a time of "buy outs' from one bank to another, but I recently got a letter from "US bank" telling me about their buy out of my local bank.  In the letter it stated that if there were any errors with regards to "payments" between the two banks that I would not be penalized during the the first 60 days of the change over.  My point is, if it were me, I would challenge what they did to you. Start with the top man/woman of the company.  It's worth a try.

I hope this doesn't sound rude, but if you have a balance on a bill and you know you owe them, well, it's your responsibilty to know what's due and when....

My only negative account is due to BofA were I falied to pay attention to the statement and assumed they would call or send a letter if I was late or didn;t pay them enough (my case).

These days checking your balance once a week is a must and use online account managment when possible and check frequently.  I am 100% convinced that BofA didnt contact me more aggressively on purpose and these days nothing CCCs do would suprise me.

Tough lesson to learn but it is always better to know how you stand with a company,

my bro just paid his amex several days late 'waiting for a statement'.  since you may have no recourse otherwise it is crucial to proactively check your online acct for payment and balance info. regulalry.  otherwise the responsibility lies with you to make snail mail work-your issuer will not take it on by releasing you from the consequences of missing predictable due dates if there is a mail delivery issue.

in any case, the default rate is outrageous and even the new cc laws won't limit how high they can go on APR.

if they won't work with you and go back to a reasonable rate PIF or BT to another card asap.

So not paying back the original balance you transferred would be a responsible way to handle the situation?

Jeff - If I were you, I would try calling the backdoor number available in this forum.  Many times those CSRs are much more helpful than regular ones.

Re: Chase did not send me my bill and raised my rate from 3.9% Fixed to 30%!

There are many reasons you may not receive a bill.  Mail gets lost in the US Mail system every day.  Mail get delivered to the wrong address at times (in your neighbors box).

It is more likely that this happened than Chase failing to send one.

However, if this is an accoun that you have had "for a long time" based upon your BT comments, then you really should have your account set up to be paid automatically by Bill Pay, or auto draft by the CCC or set up in Quicken in your budget.  You should never rely upon paying from statements, since a statement can be delayed or lost in the mail, but your payment obligation is not delayed or lost with the statement.

I would call the Backdoor number and ask for a recon AFTER you make your payment, and see if they will recon.  You can explain the mail issue and point out your past payment history.  It is worth a try.  Good luck.
