Hello myfico world,
I recently had the "urge" to apply for a credit card and got approved. Now I'm having remorse doing so since I have a good amount of cards already.
Aside from of course taking the ding for the hard inquiry, what other negative impacts will it have if I close the account before activation?
Will it still affect my length of history?
TIA.
Note: I will refrain for applying for unwanted cards next time.
You may as well activate it and put it in the SD. The hit to your INQ and AAoA have already taken its toll. If it has an AF, then cancel at it's renewal time.

I agree.
If there is no AF, in the long run it will help you and it helps your util. They may offer you a BT down the road on the CC, especially if you arent using it. Chase likes to do that with my Southwest Visa.
Oh well, Mistake already made. I guess i'll keep it, thanks everyone.
Have been approved in the past couple months for credit and my AAoA is not good.

Well, that's what this site and community are here for. To help you get to where you need to be.
Time heals all credit wounds. This venture is certainly a marathon or 2, and not a 100m sprint.
"Activation" is merely a security measure taken by creditors to ensure proper receipt of the cards.
The account is already open. If you dont activate, that wont preclude showing of the account in your CR, and thus inclusion in scoring.
