Collection Account Recently Sold

I've recently begun to clean up and rebuild my credit history.  I defaulted with BoA for $1098 back in 2002...was hounded by collection agencies for a few years which I ignored....now that I'm actually examining at what's in my credit report, I noticed that my BoA collection acct. had been sold again and is showing a "new" date of assignment as 4/2007.  I was waiting for this to fall off in 2 more years.  My question is:  If a collection account is sold, does this start the 7 year time clock all over again??  What can I do about this particular account?  I have not yet attempted a PFD as I have some other collection accounts.

Thanks for your help guys!  I'm trying to learn fast here.  On the brighter side of things, I did speak with AMEX today and they confirmed that my Optima Oasis paperwork is in the mail!  I'm on-my-way in some directions!!
