Can a collection agency pull your credit report without your consent or knowledge? I've been trying to deal with these guys for the past month and they've been unwilling to work with me. Suddenly, they call my wife when I'm not at home and demand to know who's been making our car payment since we can't pay them the 2500 dollars they want. They then proceeded to call her back every 2-3 minutes for about a half an hour before (and I have no clue why) calling my parents (who I haven't lived with for 11 years) and harassing them as well. I checked my credit report, and sure enough...they'd tapped my credit. Is this legal? I keep trying to find something about it in the Fair Credit Reporting Act but with no success.

Just an update: I'm not sure how to tell if it's a hard pull. Any information in that regard would be appreciated. Four times I've spoken with these clowns and four times they've refused to take what I can pay them. Of course I get the standard drivel about taking me to court if I don't pay them within 24 hours, ect.. but what takes the cake is that they're calling everyone in my family and in my wife's family now and making threatening and harassing phone calls. I take this as a personal insult and crossing WAY over the line to perform these stunts. What kind of legal action can I take against these knuckleheads since they seem intent on trying to harass everyone we've ever known?
