Collection Question......HELP!!!

My Ex hubby took my son to the doctor in 6/2007.
He did not have any insurance then so he has not paid the bill.
TODAY I get a collections letter from CA saying that they will put it on my CR.
Should my ex not be resp. for this bill??
I am almost done cleaning this mess up and now this????

Re: Collection Question......HELP!!!

You should probably DV.  They shouldn't be able to find your signature authorizing the charges.

Is there some statement on the letter like "if we don't hear from you in 30 days we will assume this debt is valid"?

Also, is it showing up on your CR yet?  This could just be a bluff to see if you'll pay...

Re: Collection Question......HELP!!!

You should deal with it BEFORE it goes to the CRA...you can't work it out with your ex??????....I don't think it will be worth it to let it go on your CR and hurt your score....even if you get them to take it off after by DV or something else...you probably won't get the points back that you lost initially.....

If she DV's they shouldn't be able to report it till they can validate.

Re: Collection Question......HELP!!!

Beth-
Usually med insurance & pmt division is hashed out in your divorce decree & custody papers. Refer to them. If it says he's responsible in full, you'll probably have to provide the DO w/ that.

I'd provide any court papers you may have proving his responsibility & at the same time, DV to make them prove you are the responsible party. Make sure you CMRRR your dispute, don't just talk to them over the phone,.. that way you'll have proof of the disputed status in case they try to put it on your CR in the mean time. If you handle it all over the phone, it's just your word against theirs.

Also, it might be that your ex put your info down as the "responsible party." My ex did that to me, too, without my knowledge.
He also once put down my then-two-year-old child as the "responsible party." He is beyond brilliant. Anything to stay under the radar...

Re: Collection Question......HELP!!!

Thank you all SOOO much!
I don't want this to hit my CR at ALL!!!!!!!
No, my ex will NOT pay it at all.
He thinks that is what my CS now is for.
I'll DV the CA correct?? He is to handle all medical bills/ insurance for my children but that court order I have is the most recent one as of our last court foray 9/2007.
Will this work??
