Collection Time Frames

I have one collections debt on file, it is from a old cell phone account.  The collection agency is listed as "606yc13027"  this brings up my first question: how do I determine the name of the credit company and the contact information for them?

The current balance is $290.  The "date assigned" is June 2006, the "date reported" is September 2007, and the "date last active" is Febuary 2004.

I am under the impression that a collection such as this one should "fall off" of my account in 7 years.  Is this 7 years from the date last active or 7 years from when exactly?

With this in mind, would it be a good idea to attempt to deal with the credit agency and pay off the amount, would it significantly improve my credit score?

Thank you in advance for any insight!

All baddies (not public records) drop from CR  7 - 7.5 years from DOFD. This is set by the OC not a CA!!!!!

CRTP vs SOL

You say that this is from an old cell phone.....Is it yours and if so when did you stop paying.
What is your SOL?
more detailed SOL

First when dealing with any CA....send a DV  CMRRR......They must answer with all info. within 30 days or stop reporting! In the DV make sure that you ask for complete account history along with everything else.      IF Your state requires that all CAs be licensed...check & see if they are!!!

Re: Collection Time Frames

I live in California, so the SOL looks like it is 4 years.  I am worried that if I sent a DV, then it might be admintting to the debt so I wont be able to send a strong PFD letter.  What do you think?  Also if I call the OC to find out the DOFD, will this possibly damage my chances of success with a PFD letter to the JDB?

Re: Collection Agency Number & Address

Hi Emily,

i have the same problem you do.

The collection agency on my report is listed as "606yc13027" too. Have you found out the name of the credit company and the contact information for them?

Your help is appreciated.

thank you!

Re: Collection Agency Number & Address

Pulling a report directly from the CRA or annualcreditreport.com will provide this information.

Yes emily, you are correct SOL is 4 years. By going by the DOLA you have supplied (if it is the real DOLA) you will be past SOL in Feb or March of 2008. If it were me, I would wait until March until doing anything.

When past SOL you can DV and if answered you have a better chance of gettin them to accept a PFD. If you pay without a PFD it will sit there for another 3 years.

You really need to check & see if the CA is licensed in Ca.

Because CAs are known to lie, does this bill belong to you & if so do you remember when you stopped paying?

Re: Collection Time Frames

Yes wait till March.  In February, or If they attempt to collect before then, ask for debt validation and dispute with CRA's.  If they continue to attempt to collect without providing validation there is a violation. Hopefully SOL's will pass and you will be in the clear
