Collection on TU removed but no score change

Hi all.

I finally got a collection removed by TU (Elite Recovery Services).  They were showing it with a $1167.00 balance although it was paid a long time ago.  Sad, but no score change.

Whats weird is it popped on my TU report as date reported April 2008. I went back and the DOFD was 7/2003, but like I said it had been paid way before I knew about this forum. Well, I immediately went to disputing it.  I got the letter from TU today and I pulled a TU report from my fico and nothing, no change.  Guess it wasn't making that much difference to my score. Still 690. No other changes to the report of any significance.

I'm happy that it isn't showing as a collectiion anymore, Smiley Very Happy but sad because I thought I'd see at east a couple of points added.Smiley Sad

Now I have one TXU paid collection to get off from 7/2004.  I'm writing a GW letter to them again this evening.  Anyone have any luck with a TXU delete?

Re: Collection on TU removed but no score change

Congrats on the CA, but boooo on the points. I would look to see if anything in in your report that could have offset the point gain on the CA. Examples might include util% greater than 20% more, an added late, and old late added, a new account on your CR, a deletion of another account other than the CA, etc.

Also, I found this happened to me once that a baddie popped off my report. That same day (I pull TC everyday) I pulled my corresponding FICO report and there was no score change. It wasn't until 2 days later that my score eventually did change. Thought it was a quirk. Also, FICO won't account for your disputed accounts. So, if you pulled your FICO report after you disputed and the CA disappeared, you won't see any added points. The change to score would have occured at the exact moment you dispute.

Re: Collection on TU removed but no score change

Thanks for the input!  I disputed it about 1 1/2 weeks ago by fax. Nothing has changed other than my BOA balance went from 100.00 to about 320.00. But even with that, at the reporting time, I was at 6% utilization on BOA and overall on everything about 3%.

I'll check facos (TC) in a few days to see if my score there moves. If so, I may pull another TU report.

Thanks for the time you took to respond.

I do have a question unrelated to this.  I disputed something late last year and I believe it came back verified for something else on Equifax. I don't know how long you can wait to DV a CA.  I will have to go through some old reports to find out when it was verified.  I kind of went through a temporary slump when when of my oldest lines droppped off and I went from 14 yr history to  8 yrs. Ouch that hurt! A 20 something point drop, really depressing after working so hard. Anyway, could I still send a DV letter now?

Re: Collection on TU removed but no score change

If you pulled your TU FICO report before you fired off the fax, the it is what it is I guess. Bummer. If you had pulled your TU FICO after sending the fax, then the score you saw then excluded the CA, even though it is/was on your report.

I would also ignore your TU FAKOs. It is funny how they respond vs. FICOs. DW just had an unpaid CC CO removed with 24 lates due to CRTP. I had pulled TC first and noticed that it was gone. Her EX FAKO increased 1 point from one day to the next. I immediately pulled her EX FICO and compared to a pull last week, her FICO increased by 24 points. Stark difference.

DVing a CA before all else is recommended. You can DV anytime. Ideally, you want to send the DV as a response to their initial collection letter or dunning letter. If already on your CR, you can send it anytime. However, if it is within SOL, you really would want the $$$ saved up before you do anything (dispute, DV, PFD, etc.) so as to head off a lawsuit if it ever came to that.

Re: Collection on TU removed but no score change

I sent the faxed dispute over a week ago. I received the letter from TU today in the mail that it was deleted.  I pulled my report after I received TUs letter to see if the score had changed.

As for the other matter, yes, it is over 4 years, (by about 7 months,)  which is over the SOL for Texas. Small amount 125.00, but I want it off of there also. So I should shoot them a DV letter tonight.  Thank you so much for your help.  Only thing, it's Midland CA, and I hear they are the devil to deal with!!

Midland isn't the devil but they are closely related I hear. Good luck.
