Collections - Viewing credit report

I was looking through the Collections section of my credit report. It does not give me any information in regards to a few of the collections that are listed. All it states is "The collection agency "438yc00000" was hired to collect a debt of $(Amount owed) originally owed to "Not Reported" on account number "XXXXX and 4 numbers" Any ideas what this could be or how to obtain more information about it? Thanks

Re: Collections - Viewing credit report

Pull your free report from www.annualcreditreport.com   it will give full details.

You can also(if you don't mind being on hold) call the CRA and give account # and ask for more details on the account.

Re: Collections - Viewing credit report

I had that collection agency on my TU report. I disputed the item and it wad removed. I received a 20 points increase by removing that Collection Agency.

That collection agency it was from a comcast bill that I had under my name, however when I opened up the account they didn't ask me for my SSN that's why I disputed it because they couldn't prove I was the owner.

Re: Collections - Viewing credit report

But if I dispute it with the CRA and they don't remove it won't it update it and leave it on my credit report for 7 more years from the date of last activity?

Hi susieq1, I am not a mod but can easily answer your question here. NO disputing has nothing to do with DOLA (date of last activity) If you pay on the account that will reset DOLA disputing does not.

Hope this helps

Re: Collections - Viewing credit report

bott is correct.....I just want to add that the length of time it remains on your CR goes from DOFD. This does not change unless you bring the account current BEFORE charge off/collections. Making a payment after it is charged off/sent to collections will not cause the account to remain on your report longer.

DOFD is set by the OC and can not be changed.

Re: Collections - Viewing credit report

I have several collections that are showing the DOLA several years after the DOFD with the original creditor?

Re: Collections - Viewing credit report

OK, just to be clear: If I had a med bill from 2001 and it took 4 years before it was sent to collections, it will be gone from my report soon (2008) anyway right?

My situations is that all my med bills are nearly 7 years old, but some of the collections for them are showing much more recent (ie 2006). I was afraid they had a legal right to leave some of these collections on my account for ~7 years after 2006 when the DOLD was ~2001.

Yes. CRTP is 7 to 7.5 years from DOFD, or in this case, roughly around the bill date plus 30-90 days for the delinquency. So if the bill was very late around 6/2001, it would be removed anywhere from 6/2008 to 12/2008. One exception would be if that bill became a public record (e.g. you were sued).

You can pull your TU and EX report directly from the CRA and it will tell you what date it'll likely be removed. You would have to call for EQ. If it doesn't have a date that matches this range, then it has been re-aged and you would have to take further action.
