Collections

I currently have an outstanding medical bill that was forwarded to a collection agency. I know the bill is mine so i did not bother to validate it. I called the agency up and made payment arrangements in two payments. I sent off the first payment, and the second payment is coming up due. I called the company and asked for an extension because something came up. The lady was very nice and agreed to the extension. Now, my question is, do you think its going to be put on my credit report? The last payment is due April 15th but i asked can i pay it at the end of the month on the 30th. The original arrangements was for May 31st ( i paid that payment) and the next one is for April 15th.  Or do  you think i should call them back to inquire about my credit report? i answered the letter within the 30 days so it wont go on my credit report, but with me doing an extension, i don't want it to go beyond the 30 days and gets added to my report.

Re: Collections

Alot of the times the collection agencys will let you know what date they will report to the credit bureaus as well as what bureaus they report to. It is best to call and inquire into when they plan on reporting the information to the credit bureau.
I just posted a question regarding a collection agency that reported my information within 7 days of their collection letter. Although I never received the original collection letter from the creditor, I did finally receive a copy of the original letter and the letter was date the 20th of February and the information was reported to the credit bureau on the 1st of March. Please do not hesitate to contact the collection agency.

Re: Collections

Thank you so much for responding. I took your advice and called the collection agency back and the same lady i spoke with told me that they report to the credit bureaus at the end of the month so if i called early in the morning on the 30th it would not report. I didnt want to take any chances so i just did a post dated check and she noted the account paid in full.

I have been working on my credit for a while now and i am doing everything in my power to prevent any more negative information reporting.

I really hope I'm not raining on your parade here, but it's always best to get any agreement from a CA in writing.  Even when they say they won't report, they often tell you whatever you want to hear just so you will pay.  You really want to keep an eye on your reports over the next few months.
