Who actually puts the comments in the comment section on your credit report?
I have been told the CRA and have been told the lender or collection agency.
Any of the above potentially depending what the remark is to my knowledge; it's sort of a catch-all field, I think you can update it or something akin as well potentially a la personal statement, though I tend to avoid that like the plague.

Welcome wildchild! Like Revelate mentioned it can be filled out by the lenders and CRA's. Usually it isn't anything you need to be concerned with. Rev also mentioned the personal statement, and that can be filled out by you, but really it does not do a whole lot to my knowledge. I stay away from it also for some reason.

One special comment that can be significant is one that adds the statement that a debt was settled for less than the full amount.
On a manual reveiw, it advises that the consumer has a history of not having paid the entire debt they obligated.

The fewer comments on my report the better, anything on the report can and will be used against me in UW... and that's not a cynical viewpoint in this scenario .
Hence my rationale for never ever putting a personal statement of any sort there.
