Confused as to what this means.....

Charge off account - Amount in high credit is original charge-off amount.

1st this was from my wireless company.   I have always had the same acct with them and had one interruption of service that the day after the phone was deactivated I returned from deployment and immediately had it turned back on after paying over $400.  About 2 years later I noticed a collection agency on my credit report and called and they stated what it was.  I immediately called my wireless provider and they mailed me a letter stating the issue would be corrected.

Do the above statement "Charge off acct" mean the issue has been resolved or does it state I am still delinquent?  The balance on the acct still remains at $158.

Re: Confused as to what this means.....

Welcome to the forum.

A charged off account is one of the worst derogatory comments that can be on a credit report.  If it does not say it is a paid CO, then it means you stilll owe the money.

I would contact the provider again and see what they have to say.  Tell them exactly what is on your credit report and you have already talked to them about it.  Let them know they sent you a letter saying it would be taken care of.   Do you still have the letter from them?

Is it just the CA reporting?

Re: Confused as to what this means.....

Of course now that I'm trying to call them all circuits are busy.  Go figure...   I don't have the letter with me.  I live in Hawaii and still have the majority of my house hold goods in North Carolina.   I've searched for the letter here but I'm sure its in the storage unit.  Very annoying, appears it would have been easier to just pay the money regardless of it being incorrect...

The CA is no longer on my report now its strictly coming from Verizon.  My Experian report says the acct is closed and the Equifax I got today says its open.

Thank you for responding.

Re: Confused as to what this means.....

Keep trying to get in touch with them.

Tell them you paid what they asked and now there is a CO on your credit report.  After you got a letter from them stating they would take care of it.

And they don't need to know you don't have the letter with you.

If it comes down to it you might ask them if you paid it, and you are not acknowledging you owe it, if they would remove the CO from your report.

Re: Confused as to what this means.....

I presume the question is regarding the comment about the high credit field being the charge off amount. The comment is unique to Equifax. There are three fields that can be or are reported to the bureau(s). The fields are credit limit, high balance and high credit. The first one is obvious as to what it is. The second one is the highest balance ever reached on that account in its histroy. The high credit field is the high of the high balance and the credit limit. These fields are a little more meanning as they would relate to a credit card. In your case, if the credit report shows the high credit field that amount is what the creditor charged off. The balance not being zero means one the trade line has not updated since you made the payment. Two if has updated the balance amount needs to be corrected. Call the creditor and work them if they does not work dispute it with credit bureau(s) showing using the copy of the check as proof.

Re: Confused as to what this means.....

Thank you for all your advice.  I've contacted Verizon and they claimed a deletion was done.  They have resubmitted a deletion for all 3 credit agencies and a notification letter to me.  Hopefully it happens this time.  I just called them today so they said about 5 business days for the deletion and I'll have the letter in about 7-10 days.

Thanks again!!
