Consumer Statement

Do you all think it is a good idea to add a consumer statement on a credit report(s)? I was discharged from BK in 3/08. I am trying to rebuild my credit and feel compelled to explain the reason for my BK. (mostly biz related)

Re: Consumer Statement

It is my understanding that lenders won't even look at the statements. And if you put them on, some have reported in here that it is difficult to remove.

A statement is of no value at all to you.

Re: Consumer Statement

I put a consumer statement on my EQ file because I had trouble removing a Verizon account that didn't belong to me, despite over 4 years of trying to get it off.  I think it's going to stay on the file for several more years, even though it appears that the account has finally been removed.  I was warned when I made the statement that I would not be able to remove it voluntarily.

Remember that incredibly hard-nosed Professor in The Paper Chase?  Imagine trying to explain to him why your homework was late.  Well, a consumer statement in a CR is even less worthwhile.

TU 791 02/11/2013, EQ 800 1/29/2011 , EX Plus FAKO 812, EX Vantage Score 955 3/19/2010 wife's EQ 9/23/2009 803
EX always was my highest when we could pull all three
Always remember: big print giveth, small print taketh away

Re: Consumer Statement

No - it tells others who look at your file that you've had issues.

Re: Consumer Statement

My consumer statement looks pretty stupid now.  Now that this stubborn Verizon account has been removed, the statement doesn't seem to refer to anything.  It sounds like the rant of an angry, crazy man - which it was at the time.  And there's a misspelling, too.  Oh well, it's not as if anybody actually reads it.

Re: Consumer Statement

I'm sure glad I searched this one out before I put a statement on my reports!

Re: Consumer Statement

I agree that they're mostly useless, but I didn't have any issues getting mine removed.  I did a phone dispute with Experian, and for whatever reason, the CSR decided to put a statement on my report about it.  I did an online dispute asking to delete it and it was gone in less than a day.
