Could it really be this easy?--A Question about a collection

I was recently a victim of major ID theft, and I won't describe the whole thing here because it's super long and complicated, but here's the interesting part. A saw a collection on of my reports for an account that definitely isn't mine, Charter Communications. It was for about $1,500. So I called the collection agency, the CBE Group. I spoke with somneone and told him that the account isn't mine. I said it's ID theft, and I said I can't even sign up for Charter if I want to because they're not in my area. The guy listened to me and said, "Since you're a victim of identity theft I'm going to have the account deleted", and he said that they submit all deletions on Sunday. Did I get lucky by talking to him? Will it really be deleted?

Possible he will follow through, if not you of course will need to use the ID Theft laws afforded you in the FCRA to have it excluded

Sometimes it is that easy.   Often times it is not, so enjoy it when it is!

I had the same thing with Verizon.    A fraudulent account from idenity theft.    I did all kinds of things to get it removed before just calling Verizon (it was before I joined Ficoforums and learned better).  They deleted it and even sent me a letter verifying that it was deleted, not considered mine, and I legally owed nothing.
